Sumana: I'd say: DON'T start by trying to find a bug to fix. Instead, a good way to start is to go through old (like, more than a year old) open issues/bug reports and test whether they are still reproducible in the most recent release and in a build from the most recent commit on the main branch.

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) can be useful. I use it to pair my LoRA tracker base station and altimeters to my phone, but it's so easy to abuse.
